The 20km - a great success

05/06/2015
Despite the rain this year’s edition of the '20km through Brussels' was once again one to remember… with the fastest Fedasil runner achieving a top score!

This marked the third time that Fedasil took part in the 20km through Brussels race. 120 colleagues and asylum seekers from 11 different reception centres, together representing 32 nationalities, assembled early in the morning at the centre in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre to collect their race numbers and T-shirts. The runners then set off together towards the Parc du Cinquantenaire, to prepare themselves, alongside the other 40,000 participants, for the start of the 36th edition of the 20km through Brussels race.It was a chilly one this time, with some occasional drizzle, but there was no dampening the runners' spirits. All our participants reached the finish line, thanks to the great encouragement of the Fedasil supporters' team along the road.Impressive performanceOnce again there were quite a few runners with impressive scores. The fastest Fedasil runner was the Ethiopian Gabriel Meles, resident of the reception centre in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. He ran the 20km distance in just 1 hour 8 minutes, a top score which won him 25th place in the 20km ranking! This meant that the centre at Woluwe-Saint-Pierre won the Fedasil trophy for the third time running. Congratulations to all participants for their fabulous achievements!TraditionIn the meantime the 20km through Brussels race has become quite a tradition within Fedasil and it generates massive enthusiasm among both residents and staff. In participating, Fedasil aims to highlight the active and collective nature of the agency. It also gives asylum seekers a pleasant diversion during their wait for a decision.
