UNHCR

The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was created on 14 December 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and to seek solutions for the problems of refugees worldwide.

HCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to apply for international protection and find safe refuge in another State. In the end, the solutions which it implements are return to country of origin, integration into the host country or resettlement in a third country.

EMN

The role of the European Migration Network (EMN) is to meet the information needs of European Union institutions and of Members States' authorities and institutions by providing up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information on asylum and migration, with a view to supporting policy making in the European Union.

The European Commission coordinates the EMN in cooperation with national contact points appointed by each Member State, including Belgium.

IOM

Established in 1951, the International Organisation for Migration is the leading inter-governmental organisation in the field of migration. It works closely with its governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. It includes 151 Member States, including Belgium. Fedasil works with the IOM amongst others in the fields of the voluntary return, reintegration and resettlement of refugees.
