The risk of labour exploitation

02/12/2016
Fedasil has been involved in producing a brochure advising asylum seekers on their rights and the risks associated with work.

“You have applied for asylum and you want to work?” On the initiative of the Belgian Minister for Justice, various institutions (including Fedasil) have produced an information brochure for asylum seekers. In Belgium, asylum seekers have the right to work if they have not received a decision from the CGRS 4 months after having submitted an asylum request.

The aim of this brochure is to provide the asylum seekers wishing to work with information about their rights and obligations, but also to avoid situations of exploitation or human trafficking.

The contact details of various organisations specialised in employment law, foreigner rights, and centres specialised in the area of human trafficking are provided at the end of the brochure.

Reception centres are invited to convey this information to all asylum seekers concerned. The brochure is currently available in French, Dutch and English.

The brochure is in annex (pdf).
