The European Union is exerting an increasingly greater influence on the asylum and reception systems of Member States. Between 1999 and 2005, several legislative measures were taken to harmonise asylum policies within the Union and strengthen financial solidarity via the creation of specific funds. The final aim is to arrive at a common European Asylum System.

Fedasil is focusing ever more on the different developments at European level which influence the competences particular to the Agency. This concerns, first of all, the reception, voluntary return, and support for reintegration of refugees in the country of origin, or their resettlement. At international level, collaboration with countries of return and transit has been extended.

Europeanization and internationalisation form a growing component of Fedasil's budget while the share of funding from Europe increases regularly.
