Funding

National budget and AMIF

The voluntary return programme is included in the budget earmarked for Fedasil and, therefore, is partly financed by national resources. Between 2014 and 2020, the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund supports Member States in their actions on behalf of voluntary return, including Fedasil which is responsible for the coordination of voluntary return in Belgium.

2007-2013: European Return Fund

The European Return Fund, created by the European Union for the 2007-2013 period, supported Member States in developing a return policy. The fund concerned forced returns as much as voluntary returns.

The Immigration Office was the authority in charge of this fund in Belgium. The ‘voluntary return’ section was managed in close collaboration between the Immigration Office and Fedasil, which is responsible for the coordination of voluntary return in Belgium. The two organisations published a joint call for projects every year.
